Delivering bikes from Oxford Regional Education Centre students!

2 of the 6 bikes went out yesterday! One of the boys lives 20+ minutes on a motorcycle from school! He now gets to ride a bike instead of walking! THANK YOU Students from OREC in Oxford, Nova Scotia!!

Photo Albums

Hi Everyone,

Until I can figure out how to do photo albums on blogspot you can check out my albums on my JeninHaiti Facebook page! I've been able to post over a 100 photos in the last day and a bit because the internet has been great!

You don't have to have a Facebook account to look at this page.

Thanks
Jen

The Boy's Garden!

Some of the boys asked me to come look at something the other day and to my surprise they had started their own gardens!! There was space left over after the school classes planted their spaces so the boys claimed the rest for their gardens! I am so proud of them!!!

Dirt Cookies

I had heard this was being done and some visitors said they had bought some last fall but until Mami Brittany bought some and brought them home last week I think I was wishing they were not real. Dirt cookies. People mix margarine, salt and dirt and sell them. Brittany said the lady told her "pregnant women love them!"

OREC Bike Donation

Pator Daniel (right) negotiating.

We really can't do things here without help from home and this is a perfect example! A friend/teacher at Oxford Regional Education Centre (Tracy Calder Swan) got in touch with me to ask how she and the students could help. Instead of doing a gift exchange at Christmas, they decided to raise money to buy bikes for some of our school kids who live very far from school. Another way to make their lives easier. I went with Pastor Daniel from the Lambs of God Orphange to Cap Hatian to buy the bikes last Saturday. He was able to negotiate for the bikes and locks and we transported them back to Hope for Haiti. We'll give them a wash and tune up then get them out to the kids! Can't wait to see their faces!
THANK YOU OREC STUDENTS AND TRACY CALDER SWAN!!!

Medical Centre

We are building a Medical Centre here at Hope for Haiti and I was able to go up onto the 4th floor as they did the pour! They poured through the day and into the night. This building and the people brought to work here are going to save lives. So desperately needed.

Garden Update!

Here's how the garden is looking! Tomatoes are TASTY!! First tomato/basil salad of the year went to Mami Heather! Tiniest salad ever with just 2 cherry tomatoes!

Petey and Mami Heather

Our newest edition is Petey. Mami Heather brought him home from the Miriam Centre for a bit. He is an adorable 5 year old that we feed by a syringe 5 - 6 times a day. He has started smiling! We haven't been able to capture it in photo yet but we will! Mami Heather is amazing and takes care of Petey and Jean 24/7 on top of running the preschool. Both boys have CP and the love and care she gives them is making them thrive!
